TRAINING RESOURCES ON CHILDREN PROTECTION IN EMERGENCY , PSYCHIATRY SUPPORT AND CASE MANAGEMENT

Within the framework of the implementation of the project “Supporting youth and children in response to COVID-19” of Save the Children in Vietnam (SC) in collaboration with the Children’s Sponsor Association of Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh City (HCWA), American International Institute of Social Psychology (AIPI) was honored to participate in the training group of the source trainer training course (TOT) on “Protecting children in emergencies, providing support psychology and case management” for 25 officials from the Project Management Board, employees of social organizations in the child-adolescent support network and local officials in the project area.

The training program took place in 3 days from October 24 to 26, 2022 with a lot of good and useful knowledge, attracting the participation of the participants.

 

At the training session, the trainees were equipped with knowledge and skills on child protection such as in case of emergency (CPiE), psychological support and case management from experts in a specific way. the most detailed so that students can apply in practice; from there, deploying replication and communication training activities for beneficiaries (parents, teachers, caregivers, ward and commune-level child protection officers) in the project area. on the content of the training.

During the training, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Nguyet _Director of AIPI provided and shared in-depth knowledge about possible risks to children in crisis/disaster events and psychological reactions. of children during disasters, mental health and psychosocial support during disasters. At the same time, she also gave the trainees practice psychological first aid skills such as: understanding the situation, listening but not forcing others to speak; soothe and help people feel calm; help people connect information with social services and resources, communicate openly and honestly, give children time to master perception, realize loss, increase disclosure feeling …
The training course uses diverse methods such as role-playing, group discussion, practice, etc. so that everyone can understand and grasp practical knowledge and skills in handling real-life situations.

At the end of the TOT course, most of the participants have grasped the basic knowledge and skills provided in the training course, which can be better applied in the training to communicate and implement the protection work. local children. Participants also shared that this is one of the first training courses related to psychology, which is very useful and practical in current child care and protection, especially in the post-Covid 19 pandemic, and Looking forward to more similar training courses in the future.
